Beyond the marks

Leadership, advocacy and character

Co-Founder, Lancaster BAME Law Society

From zero to over 100 members in year one

He built the network that didn't exist for Black and minority-ethnic law students — securing institutional funding from Allen & Overy Shearman, partnering with practising solicitors and barristers, and running the workshops and panels that turned “this isn't for people like me” into applications, preparation and offers.

Advocate & team-mate

Moot champion · linebacker · Rookie MVP

Winner of Lancaster's Mooting Competition, third nationally in the UK inter-university mediation competition, and a negotiation-competition finalist among 47 entrants. Off the page, a linebacker for the Lancaster Bombers — Rookie MVP, an unbeaten season, and a fifth consecutive Roses victory. Advocacy and a defensive line demand the same things: trust, precise communication, and composure under pressure.

  • Lancaster Nightline & African Caribbean Society exec
  • Languages: English, Shona, Spanish
In his own words
“Five years from now, I want to be advising clients on transactions where commercial strategy, regulatory considerations and intellectual property intersect — where the legal team's value lies in helping the business navigate risk, not simply identify it.”
Michael Chiimba · BPP Future Lawyers Scholarship
The measure of him

The most demanding personal chapter of his life became the strongest academic year of his degree — straight First-Class marks across all five modules and the highest aggregate in his cohort. That, more than any single award, is the evidence of what he does when it matters most.
